Hello, I just found out that they are closed and I have or had reservations starting July 12th for two weeks. I am sorry that someone might have health problems, but I did not get a letter or anything about the closure. Found out by chance. Tried the posted number and the mail box is full. I see now I have a number of calls to make. Thank you for the information. Any suggestions on finding out who may own the cabin I thought I was going to?? Thanks in advance.

ATTENTION!!! I just called the bank that was used to supply the deposit for the cabin rental via debit card. The lady at the bank said that a dispute needs to be filed at their bank by my nephew since they did not get to use the cabin and then the cabin rental company owners will have a certain amount of time to respond. If they don't, then more action will be taken by the bank. The problem with some of your rentals is that your time has not arrived yet. I am really troubled by the lady who reserved two cabins for her 90 year old grandfather celebration. I cannot understand how the Vicks can be so cold. Oh, wait a minute, they put a lady on the street just a week after finding out she had cancer. That is how cold they are!!!

I feel like I am not worthy to be in his presence. He just has this intimidating air about himself. I went to church in my hometown last Sunday and I am still walking in God's light thanks to the minister. I even emailed him two months ago about Gene and his mannerisms. He answered me in two days. I have tried to email Gene but I get Bobby. See...I don't have a big check to give him. Or a valuable pen. I told my son about his braggard ways....he could not believe it. A minister into materialistic things. I hope everyone will see God's LIGHT one day. This church reminds me of the movie about evangelism with Steve Martin.

Well in the letter sent to the cabin owners from Libby Vick, it says we will be reimbursed for June rentals thru the 15th. I am not very confident that they are going to pay cabin owners or reimburse the renter's deposit money. When somebody closes the door this quickly, it is usually due to financial hardship. They have too many people in the family and employees who could have done the right thing and kept the business open until all transactions were cleared up. That is what decent people do.

I think some people are filing police reports. I don't know if it will do any good or not. If the deposit is over a certain dollar amount, you might be able to get a warrant issued. I know some people have lost over thousands of dollars.

I am one of the owners and I am livid. The good thing is that most of the owners know where the VICKS live in Cobbly Nob. We, the owners of cabins that Libby used to manage, need to assemble sometime this month and meet with a good lawyer to make the VICKS live up to their contractual agreement even if that means that Robert's Daddy has to bail them out. We don't care we just want what is fairly ours.

My husband and I were among the first staff members at the Gathering in 2000. We hardly got one dime for our service there and what we did get, we had to fight for it. Gene Wolfenbarger is one of the most self centered men that I have ever encountered in ministry. If you don't look like Ken or Barbie, wear the finest name brand clothes and drive a BMW, he doesn't want any part of you. I am just sorry I never got the chance to tell this to his face. He is giving the precious name of Jesus a bad rap by hurting those who serve in ministry along side him or those who are a part of his congregation. He didn't even treat his own wife with any kind of respect either!!!!! I would not trust him as far as I could throw him. This man needs to be exposed for what he is. He treated his associate pastor like he was his own personal slave by making him give Gene a bath after a minor surgery! It saddens me to think about how many he has already hurt and certainly will continue to hurt in the future! This man is a devil in sheep's clothing!!

What the heck is going on at The Gathering? Why are most of the staff leaving the church? Have they discovered the truth finally? Maybe people have wised up and are not giving to this man. People are probably running from this church that Gene has structured improperly from the beginning! What other wives of pastors in this area are getting paid 50-60 K per yr. while other staff are being let go because they cannot afford to pay them?

Everyone who attends the gathering should tithe another cause. We are. I would rather send my money to a church I have faith in. A church where the minister actually answer your email. A church where the minister is friendly and approachable. I sure was blessed by Dr. Tim Lee's sermon. I wish he was the minister of the gathering. I cannot believe that he was Gene's mentor. Maybe he wasn't. I would love to talk to one of the staff that has decided to move on. 250k in ten years. WOW!!!! (How many tithing sermons would we have to endure if the congregation did that!!! Go ahead peoples, we can take it.)

I don't understand what you guys are talking about. I've been going to the Gathering for a few years now. I have learned much more at the Gathering about the Bible than I have ever at any other church I had attended previously. Gene is human just like you and me. He will make mistakes and he will offend people. That's just fact but why don't you just listen to the message he gives instead of worrying about what he drives or how much money he has in his bank account? I'm not worried about how the money is being spent at the Gathering because if in fact, Pastor Gene is not spending it correctly...well that's between him and God isn't it? At least I'm being obedient to God and paying my tithe. I'm doing right in God's eyes and that's all that matters to me. As far as the paying for a seat in the church...there has been some misunderstanding. The Gathering was collecting money donations to build a church in Haiti. Pastor Leone from Port-au-Prince was at a Wed. night service at the church. The money for parking is for the expansion on the church parking. Gene is always polite and curteous and I really don't understand what he has done to warrant your cynicism and insults. I have worked in the Lord's Child and seen with my own eyes food being given to families who really need it. How could you dislike that??? I pray that Gene continue with his ministry regardless of you and that he continue to lead souls into salvation. What have you done that makes you so much better than him???? Perhaps instead of picking and plucking at Gene maybe you should take a good look at yourself.

Our daughter attended church with us two months ago. She is home from college for a week before going to work at church camp. She asks last nite if we can go to another church Sunday morning instead of the Gathering. She does not trust the man. She commented that he is all about himself. It is something that she is so observant of his methods of showmanship. I guess all the money we are spending on her education is providing her a well-rounded learning experience and an understanding of the world. Thanks to everyone for all your comments. I noticed there are no other comments about other Sevierville churches or leaders.

I was thrilled to learn that the first cause for the Easter Thanksgiving giving is the Haitian Church. They need a building that will be their church home more than we need parking. We can deal with walking extra feet so they can have a shelter to worship in. Again, on the issue of money, just show us the budget. That is all we ask!!!! As a person who has visited The Gathering I've got to comment. There are some very disturbing "patterns" in Gene's messages that those who go there need to be discerning about. He is a man who cannot accept criticism, therefore in his messages he subtly and not so subtly sets himself up into such a position that makes people afraid to question him. To begin with he constantly referred to how God talks to him and how much time he spent in prayer. Most every message started with a reminder of that. Then last year, in February, he stated in a message how 'he hates people who question him" and referred to anyone who did that as the "10 spies, keeping The Gathering out of the promised land". Now he's into the positions of the church and has the congregation date in their Bibles when HE became a prophet, teacher, apostle etc. What's with that?!? Once again setting it up that no one even dare question anything he says or decision he makes. Be careful people - THAT IS SO DANGEROUS! He had a message last year where he talked about how he has risen to the top and now people serve him. How he used to set chairs for an evangelist and now he has 5 different types of water to choose from during his messages and how Nola knows exactly the tea and temperature he needs between messages. Where in the Bible does it show Christ having this attitude?!?! Christ came to serve, not be served. Christ was all about being humble - never about positioning. There are so many good godly people at that church and I just pray that Gene sees what he is doing and repents before he leads this church down a bad, bad path. People who go there, don't be afraid to question when he says things that don't sound quite right. In Acts 17 the Bereans were described as having "noble character" and examining the scriptures to see is what Paul said was true. This is a good thing - that we are called to do. Don't let anyone browbeat you into fear of doing this. "All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training..." I Tim3:16. As a body we are to hold each other accountable - no one is above that. Don't let Gene intimidate you. There are so many good things going on at the Gathering, but there are also many disturbing things, don't let those things going on. I'm praying for you.
